verzweiflung – A story about how I hacked the internet

TL;DR verzweiflung (GitHub) is a highly pragmatic solution to packet loss in China (and other places) as well as sharing bandwidth with other users altogether – though at a cost. A class based system About three years ago my employer started sending me to China, a magical place where the internet is strangely different. Besides …

Power supply failures can be pretty annoying to find

Recently one of the four drives in my HTPC kept dropping out, first it happened once every few days, then after several hours. The weird thing was that it always came back after losing the SATA link and allowed me to mount it again. I first thought it was a problem of the SATA controller …

The power of TNT is at your disposal

TNT stands for Thumb2 Newlib Toolchain, a GCC/Newlib based toolchain project I started quite a while ago. Trying various other toolchains like CodeSourcery, summon-arm-toolchain and YAGARTO, I realized none of them really seemed to have the smallest ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers in mind; They were wasteful with RAM as well as flash memory. Pidgin and some addons

Since Debians Pidgin has broken protocols and there was a severe security risk I had to rebuild my local Pidgin. This time I made some nice DEBs so you can use them as well. As always my purple plugin pack contains switchspell. 😉 Oh and they’re all 64bit. pidgin_2.6.5-1_amd64.deb purple-plugin-pack_2.6.2-1_amd64.deb bot-sentry_1.3.0-1_amd64.deb pidgin-gfire_0.8.3-1_amd64.deb pidgin-otr_3.2.0-1_amd64.deb

How to play HD Flash videos lag free on Debian/Ubuntu

After searching ages for the reason why Youtube HD Flash videos run fine on my laptop (Even two at the same time!) but not on a friends laptop with mostly identical hardware we found out that it’s depending in the installed architecture. Debian Lenny 32bit has major problems playing flash videos (doesn’t matter whether you …
